Design a slotted rack that keeps lids upright

This tool generates a slotted rack that keeps food container lids upright in a drawer or cupboard and exports it as STL. Lids stand on edge between the dividers instead of piling up, so you see the one you need without pulling the rest out. You enter slot count, slot width, divider thickness, divider height and base depth in millimetres.

Outer width is slot count times slot width plus the dividers and is shown in the panel. Dividers can be flat, rounded on top or sloped with a low front, and the base can be rounded up to fit Gridfinity cells.

Free, no sign-up. Change the sizes in millimetres and download the STL.

What it is used for

  • Organizing plastic container lids in a drawer
  • Keeping pan lids and cutting boards upright
  • A rack for baking trays and small serving plates
  • Adding a lid section to a Gridfinity drawer

Printing tips

Orientation
Base on the bed, dividers upright. Rounded and sloped top edges face up, so no supports are needed.
Layer height
0.2-0.28 mm layers. Dividers are thin and tall, so a lower speed reduces wobble.
Infill
15-20% infill is enough for the base; 2 mm dividers are printed as solid walls.
Supports
Not needed. The anti-slip pad recesses have a short 10 mm bridge as their ceiling.
Material
PLA or PETG. Inside a drawer there is no heat, so PLA is fine.

Tips

  • Pick a slot width equal to the rim height of your thickest lid plus 2-3 mm.
  • Keep base depth between a half and two thirds of the largest lid diameter.

Divider thickness and height ratio

Tall, thin dividers wobble under the nozzle while printing and flex when you pull a lid out. The panel shows the ratio of divider height to wall thickness and warns when it goes above 50 or when the wall drops under 1.2 mm. For a 90 mm divider a 2 mm wall is a good balance.

  • Wall at least 1.2 mm, preferably 2 mm
  • Height to wall ratio of 50 or less
  • Sloped dividers make lids easier to grab from the front

How the Gridfinity base is sized

With Gridfinity on, the tool rounds outer width and depth up to whole 42 mm cells and adds the standard 7 mm base profile. Slots are centred and the spare width is shared equally on both sides. Anti-slip recesses are switched off in this mode because the base sits in a baseplate.

Frequently asked questions

How wide should a slot be?

For flat lids add 2-3 mm to the lid thickness. For lids with a tall rim, turn the lid on its side and measure the thickest point; 15 mm suits most plastic containers.

The organizer slides around in the drawer. What can I do?

Turn on the anti-slip recesses; Ø10 mm self-adhesive silicone bumpers fit underneath. Above 160 mm width two more pads are added in the middle.

It does not fit my bed. What now?

Use fewer slots and place two organizers side by side. The panel warns when the largest dimension goes over 220 mm.
