A deck box sized by the number of cards

This tool generates a box that stores a card deck upright, together with its lid, and exports it as an STL. Choose the card size, card count and card thickness; the inner depth is calculated from them and the model is built in your browser.

Box and lid print side by side as two parts. The sliding lid runs in a dovetail rail, while the cap lid sits on a neck and finishes flush with the outer wall. A finger notch makes it easy to grip the cards.

Free, no sign-up. Change the sizes in millimetres and download the STL.

What it is used for

  • Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon decks
  • A sleeved Commander deck (100 cards)
  • Japanese small cards such as Yu-Gi-Oh!
  • Cards and tokens for board games
  • A spare deck for tournaments

Printing tips

Orientation
Print the box base down with the opening up. The sliding lid prints wide face down and the cap lid prints top down.
Layer height
Use 0.2 mm. Rails and lid edges slide more smoothly at 0.16 mm.
Infill
15% infill, 3 perimeters. A 2.4 mm wall is six lines with a 0.4 mm nozzle, so it needs no infill.
Supports
None. The upper face of each rail leans about 29° from vertical.
Material
PLA or PETG. A PETG lid flexes a little and slides more softly.

Tips

  • Start with 0.25 mm lid clearance; add 0.05 mm if it is tight.
  • For double sleeved cards set the thickness to 0.7 mm.
  • Slide the lid in from the open end of the box along the rails.

How the inner size is found

1 mm of play is added to the card width and height. Depth is the card count times the card thickness plus 2 mm, which gives 38 mm for 60 sleeved cards at 0.6 mm. The panel shows the inner depth after every change.

  • Sleeved standard: 66 x 91 mm (MTG, Pokémon in sleeves)
  • Unsleeved standard: 63.5 x 88 mm
  • Japanese small: 59 x 86 mm
  • Custom: enter card width and height

Sliding or cap lid

The sliding lid is thin and flat and does not change the outer width or depth, which suits a pocket. The cap lid covers the whole top of the box and survives drops better, and the lower part of the box gets thicker by the cap wall.

Frequently asked questions

The lid is too tight or too loose.

Change the lid clearance in 0.05 mm steps: increase it if it is tight, reduce it if the lid slides off by itself.

Does a 120 card box fit my printer?

Yes. With 120 thick sleeved cards the inner depth is 86 mm, and box and lid fit side by side on a 220 mm bed.

Can I put a name on the box?

Print a thin plate with the name tag template and glue it to the face of the box.
