Design a bottle rack module that stacks

This tool generates a stackable rack module that holds wine, water and juice bottles lying down and exports it as STL. You enter the number of bottles side by side (1-4), bottle diameter, bed clearance, module depth and wall thickness in millimetres. The top of the module has half-round beds where bottles lie and the underside has arches of the same radius.

The bottom profile of the upper module is the inverse of the top profile of the lower one: the upper module sits on the peaks of the lower one and each bottle lies in a full circle between two modules. The load goes from module to module through the peaks, not through the bottles.

Ready-made variants

Each variant is the same template with different settings. Follow the link and the editor opens with those values.

Adjustable sizes

These values are edited in the editor's template panel. A number outside the range is clamped to the nearest limit automatically.

What it is used for

  • A wine rack on the kitchen counter or inside a cupboard
  • Stacking 1.5 L water bottles horizontally in the pantry
  • A rack for juice and soda bottles next to the fridge
  • A modular bottle wall that grows with your shelf

Printing tips

Orientation
Prints with the profile on the bed and the depth growing upward. All faces are vertical, so no supports are needed. Stand the module upright for use.
Layer height
0.2-0.28 mm layers; the part is large but simple.
Infill
15-20% infill and 3 walls; lightening holes save material.
Supports
Not needed. Pins and sockets have a diamond section with 45° faces.
Material
PLA or PETG. A full wine bottle weighs about 1.3 kg; a 3 mm wall and 60 mm depth carry it easily.

Tips

  • If a single row is not enough, use two rows: one at the base end, one at the neck end; the stop only on the back one.
  • Side by side modules simply butt against each other at the end columns.

How the dimensions are calculated

Bed radius is the bottle radius plus the bed clearance; a 76 mm wine bottle with 1 mm clearance gives 39 mm. Neighbouring beds are separated by a wall of the chosen thickness. Row height is two bed radii plus the wall thickness and is shown in the panel. End columns are 10 mm wide and carry the pins.

  • Wine bottle Ø74-77 mm, 1.5 L water bottle about Ø90 mm
  • Bed clearance 0.5-3 mm, on the radius
  • Pin clearance 0.1-0.5 mm, 0.25 mm by default

Locating pins and back stop

End columns carry 4 mm pins on top and matching sockets underneath, with the chosen clearance on every face, so modules cannot slide. A full bottle has its centre of gravity about 110 mm from the base, so a single row only balances with the back stop on and a depth of 118 mm or more; otherwise the panel asks for two rows. With two rows the stop goes on the back module only.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the bottom module have arches underneath?

All modules are identical; the bottom arches stay empty and the rack stands on the feet between them and on the end columns.

How many rows can I stack?

With PLA and a 3 mm wall four or five rows are fine. For taller stacks use a 4 mm wall and lean the rack against a wall.

It does not fit my bed. What now?

Use fewer bottles side by side; a two bottle module for wine or 1.5 L water fits a 220 mm bed, and the panel warns above that.
