Make pegboard hooks that fit your board exactly

This tool generates pegboard hooks, shelves and rings and exports them as STL. Pick the board: 40 mm pitch with 5x15 mm vertical slots, or classic pegboard with 25.4 mm (1 inch) pitch and Ø6 mm holes. Then choose the hook type and enter length and tip lip in millimetres.

Each hook grips the board at two points: the upper tab passes through a slot and locks with a lip that drops 6 mm behind the board, and the lower pin enters the next slot down. On slotted boards the tab is 5 mm minus twice the tolerance, 4.6 mm at the default 0.2 mm, which also fits the 5.2 mm slots of printed boards.

What it is used for

  • Pliers, scissors and screwdrivers on a workshop wall
  • Headphones, cables and chargers on a desk board
  • Spools, ribbon and tape rolls in a craft room
  • A small shelf for sprays and glue bottles

Printing tips

Orientation
Print on its side: profile on the bed, body width going up. Tab and lip sit on the z=0 face, so nothing needs support.
Layer height
0.2 mm layers; compensate elephant foot on the first layer, since tab size matters.
Infill
30-40% infill with 3 walls; on a slim arm, walls add more strength than infill.
Supports
Not needed. The round pegboard pin has its underside cut flat at the 45° tangent, so it rests on the bed.
Material
PLA suits light tools. Use PETG for heavy loads, a warm garage or permanent weight, since PLA can creep.

Tips

  • If the tab is tight, raise the tolerance in 0.05 mm steps.
  • On long arms, 7-8 mm thickness reduces sag at the tip.

Which board size fits mine?

Slotted boards have slots 40 mm apart, 5 mm wide and 15 mm tall on a 5 mm panel. Classic pegboard has Ø6 mm holes 25.4 mm apart on a 3.2 or 6.4 mm panel. Board thickness and hole diameter are parameters, so other boards work too.

  • Slotted board: 5x15 mm slots, 40 mm pitch
  • Classic pegboard: Ø6 mm holes, 25.4 mm pitch
  • Printed boards: slots about 0.2 mm wider

What are the six hook types for?

The single hook holds a tool with an upturned lip; the double hook adds a shorter second level. The straight peg rises at 10° and ends in a knob. The U holder cradles round handles, the ring carries rolls and cable bundles, and the shelf is a tray with a 45° brace.

  • Pliers and scissors: single hook, 10-15 mm lip
  • Tape and spools: ring or straight peg
  • Spray cans: shelf with a 6 mm front lip

Frequently asked questions

How do I mount the hook on the board?

Hold the upper tab at an angle, pass it through the slot and rotate the hook down. The lip settles behind the board and the lower pin drops into the slot below.

The tab will not go in, or it wobbles. What should I change?

Raise the slot tolerance if it will not go in, lower it if it wobbles. Printed boards have slightly wider slots, so 0.1 mm often fits firmer.

Why is it printed on its side?

On its side the layer lines run along the hook. Upright hooks tend to split between layers under load; side printed ones resist bending far better.
