A tool holder sized for screwdrivers and pliers

This tool generates a rack with a row of holes that keeps hand tools on the wall or at a desk edge, and exports it as an STL. Enter the hole type, number, size and spacing, choose a mount, and the model is built in your browser.

Round holes hang screwdrivers by the handle, long slots hold pliers and scissors by the joint, and the mixed option alternates both. Every mount type is built in an orientation that prints without supports.

What it is used for

  • A screwdriver set on a workshop wall
  • Side cutters and needle nose pliers at an electronics bench
  • Scissors, craft knives and tweezers on a hobby desk
  • Everyday tools along a workbench edge
  • Kitchen scissors and peelers

Printing tips

Orientation
The wall rack prints upright on a full length 45° brace by default, or with the back plate on the bed, where holes lie horizontal with a 45° teardrop top. The desk edge rack prints with the shelf top on the bed.
Layer height
0.2 mm layers are enough.
Infill
Use 30% infill and 3 perimeters; the joint between shelf and plate carries the load of a heavy plier set.
Supports
No supports needed.
Material
PETG or PLA. With a thick plate and the brace, PLA carries moderate tools well.

Tips

  • Make round holes 1-2 mm larger than the shaft and smaller than the handle.
  • Keep plier slots narrower than the joint so the handles hang below.
  • Use wall plugs; the countersunk holes in the ears hide the screw heads.

Choosing the sizes

Spacing is measured centre to centre. To keep at least 2 mm of material between holes, it grows automatically when needed and a note appears in the panel. The shelf depth also adjusts so the holes fit.

  • Screwdrivers: 8 mm holes, 20-22 mm spacing
  • Pliers: 10 mm wide, 25-30 mm long slots
  • Scissors: 8 mm wide, 22 mm long slots
  • 5 mm thickness, 50 mm back plate

Mounting options

With wall screws, the back plate extends into an ear on each side with a countersunk hole. With the desk edge mount, the rear part rests on the desk, a lip underneath presses against the front edge and two screws hold it down. The unmounted version works with double sided tape or magnets.

Frequently asked questions

Which print orientation is stronger?

Printed upright on the brace, the layers carry the shelf load better. Printing with the back plate on the bed is faster and fine for light tools.

Why are the holes teardrop shaped?

With the back plate on the bed the holes lie horizontal. The 45° teardrop tip lets their roof print without supports.

How much weight will it hold?

That depends on material, infill and screws. For heavy pliers, print upright with the brace, use 30% infill and at least two screws in wall plugs.
